John Amborski, age 88, passed away September 16, 2013, at Spring Meadows
Senior Community in
John Joseph Amborski Jr. was born December 21, 1924, the second child of Helen and John "Kelly" Amborski Sr. He attended Woodward High School and in 1941, enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the beginning of WWII. Serving heroically through V-J Day aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown in the South Pacific, he saw action in the Philippines, the Coral Sea, and Midway Island.
Upon discharge and returning home, he met and married the girl across the street, the love of his life, Peggy Majka. At that time, John was employed as an inspector for Textileather, a division of General Tire and Rubber Company. He later joined and retired from Chrysler Corp. in Perrysburg, Ohio.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus-West Toledo Council #3122, and TAPS, and a lifelong parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf, loved to fish, tend his garden and play with his grandchildren. He was a hero to his family and devoted husband, father, great-grandfather and friend. John had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy; sons, Dale (Christine) of Libertyville, IL and Richard of Santa Ana, CA; grandson, Dale Jr. (Lindsay) of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Lisa (Thomas) Przytulski of Rockford, IL; great-grandchildren, Ellen Amborski, Lydia Przytulski and Anthony Przytulski. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Helen Wodarski, Delores "Sally" Majka, and, Rose Amborski, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edward, and sister, Dorothy Michalak.
Friends may visit Thursday, September 19, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the
Urbanski Funeral Home, 5055 Secor Rd. (north of Laskey) (419)475-5055 with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Jerry Ignatowski. Funeral services will begin Friday 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home with the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family is especially thankful for the loving care provided by the nurses and staff at Spring Meadows Senior Community, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
