Peter J.

Peter J. Jaegly, age 49, died peacefully on October 6, 2013, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born May 21, 1964, to John W. and Alma "Bernice" Jaegly in Oregon, Ohio. Pete graduated from Maumee High School, and The University of Toledo with a degree in Journalism.

Pete is survived by his

devoted wife, Nora, of 17 years, and their children,

Katie (14), Sophie (12); plus his loyal dog, Stella; his

siblings, Robert and Janice Jaegly, Jill and Kevin Irwin, and his mother, Bernice. Pete was preceded in death by his father, John, and his sister, Rebecca Couch.

Pete began his career as a photographer for Jim Rohman. In 1993, he joined the Toledo Fire & Rescue

Department. Pete was

promoted to Lieutenant in 2000, received his Paramedic Certification in 2002,

promoted to Captain in 2007, and to Battalion Chief in 2011. He was a member of the Haz-Mat and Confined Space teams. Pete was awarded the prestigious life-saving award in 2000, after rescuing an

unconscious citizen from a burning home. It was obvious to everyone that Pete was passionate about his job with the Fire Department.

Family was everything to Pete. He was a devoted father and husband. Pete coached his daughters' soccer team as well as played soccer for Toledo Fire. He loved

bicycling and had a deep love for all cars.
