Rosetta Marie Thompson
Rosetta Marie Thompson Young, 74, passed away on October 21, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Detroit Avenue. She was born in Weirton, West Virginia on April 7, 1939, to Isaac and Rosie Thompson. Rosetta was a graduate of Weir High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from West Virginia State University and master's degree in health education from the University of Toledo. She taught for 31 years with Toledo Public Schools, spending 28 years teaching health and physical education at Scott High School. Rosetta was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, who also enjoyed traveling.
Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Dorothea Miller. She is survived by her former spouse and close friend, Dannie Young Jr.; daughter, Rhea Nichole; son, Dannie III; grandsons, Jason Mayfield and Dannie Young IV; granddaughters, Allison Young and Andrea Hill; brother, Isaac Thompson Jr.; sisters, Claudia Fair and Sheila Thomas, as well as a host of friends and former students.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. at The House of Day Funeral Home, 2550 Nebraska Ave., including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority rites. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1502 N. Detroit, where the family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Rev. James H. Willis Sr. will officiate, internment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
