VAN HORN

James

James Van Horn, 70, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2013, after a lengthy,

courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on

December 18, 1942.

Jim retired from Toledo Scale in 1985, after 23 years of service as a Balancer. He also retired from Chrysler Trenton Engine, after 15 years as Corporate Auditor. Jim was a member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579, VFW Buddy Frankowski Post 5530, Jim and Lou's Sportsman Club and the UAW. He was a life-long hunter and avid fisherman on Lake Erie. Jim traveled all over the U.S. and parts of Canada to hunt and fish with his childhood

buddies. He graduated from Macomber High School the night his daughter was born. It was very important to Jim for all of his grandchildren to finish college and he supported and encouraged them, while they accomplished their goals.

Jim was preceded in death by mom and stepfather, Sue and Dan Holman; and father and step-mother, Woodrow and Pauline Moore. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Jan; children, Tammie (Major Tim) Johnson and MSgt. John (Debby) Van Horn; sisters, Barbara Buckles, Joyce (Thurman) Heatherly, and Sue Cooper-Terry; grandchildren, Nicole (Jamie) Ludwig, Melissa (MSgt. Jamie) Pistole, Sra. Daniel (Jennifer) Van Horn, 2Lt. Benjamin Van Horn, and Kyrsten Johnson; great-grandchildren, Emma, Will, Kendall, TJ, and Beau, and many dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Monday, October 28, 2013 from noon-2:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The funeral service will
