GREENER

Wesley "Wes"

Wesley John Greener, 89, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013, with family at his side. Born August 9 1924, in Elmore, Ohio to John and Mollie (Bahnsen) Greener. Wes lived most of his life in the Curtice area except for his beloved winters in Florida as a snowbird.

Wes and Kip were married on October 27, 1956, in Angola, Indiana. He was a World War II Veteran, serving as a tank crewman in Gen. George Patton's Third Army, 4th Armored Division and was awarded three bronze stars. After the war, he began his career as an auto body repairman and painter, working for Dunn Motor Sales in Curtice and later Brown Pontiac of Toledo. Wes was known for his body work talents and some of his restorations went to private collections and car museums. Each of his children and even some nephews had at least one car restored by Wes and he often had them work by his side to learn the craft. Wes was a natural teacher and gave much of his time to help others, whether it was as a 4-H leader or in his own garage.

In 1968, Wes became a licensed pilot and enjoyed many years working on and flying his Taylorcraft single engine plane. He loved fishing on Lake Erie with his family and was an avid Euchre player. In later years, he took up wood carving during winters in Florida. Wes always enjoyed his second home and friends at Lazy River Village in North Port, Florida. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Genoa and the American Legion Christ Dunberger Post 537, Oregon, Ohio.

In addition to his wife, Kip, Wes is survived by children, Kay (Dennis) Green of Indianapolis, IN, Bonnie (Michael) Gomez of Sylvania, Jeffery (Janice) Greener of Lafayette, IN, Mark Greener of Curtice, Richard (Amy) Greener of Petersburg, MI, and Michael (Susan) Greener of Curtice; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Donna Greener, of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Hemminger, Wilma Konieczny; brothers, Ervin, John Jr., and David Greener.

A special thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and all the aides and nurses who provided comfort and support to Wes and the family.
