Roy Roberts Obituary
Roy H.
Roy H. Roberts, 51, of Toledo, passed away on May 2, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania Avenue.
Roy, known as "Rob" in earlier years, was a lifelong Toledo resident and a 1981 graduate of Sylvania Northview High School. He was an enthusiastic student, earning membership in Northview's I-Questers math and science honorary society, and he enjoyed an on-going interest in mathematics and drawing.
Roy's true passion though, was football. He played center for the Northview varsity football team, and although undersized for the position, Roy made up for it with sheer heart and determination. In his senior year, he was named to the First Team All-GLL, and recognized by the Toledo Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame as a top high school scholar athlete from Northwest Ohio.
Although he suffered from mental illness in his adult life, Roy's love for football continued, and he delighted in talking with fellow fans about the latest Northview Wildcats, Toledo Rockets, Michigan Wolverines, or Detroit Lions games, players, and coaches.
He will be deeply missed, but remembered as a good-natured, kind-hearted son, brother and friend, who was captivated by all things airplanes, quick with a little sports news and a smile, and always eager to tell a joke or two.
Roy is survived by his parents, James and Jane Roberts; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Cathy Roberts; and his sister, Becky Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Roy Roberts to the Toledo Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame (6144 Mercer Dr., Holland, OH 43528). Online condolences can be expressed at walkerfuneralhomes.com
