Josephine Marie

Josephine Marie Johnstone passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 21, 2015. She was born to Mae V. (Henry) and Ernest C. Perkins on October 7, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, where she spent her entire life.

She was a 1944 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, and attended the University of Toledo. She married William S. Johnstone on August 17, 1946, and they were wed for 43 years until his death in 1989. They raised five children together, and she was the best mother anyone could ever be.

A few years after William's death, she met Thomas C. McLean and began a 25-year loving relationship. Together they traveled to six of the seven continents, while making frequent visits to China, London and Paris.

Josie was known for her beauty and sparkling personality. Everyone who met her loved her. She had a keen and devilish sense of humor, and loved to have fun, making everything adventurous. She loved her grandchildren so very much, every year she would take them on a two or three-day trip to Cedar Point, and go on all the rides with them.

She will be greatly missed.

Josie was predeceased also by her parents and her brothers, Jim and Jack Perkins. She is survived by her sons, William (Carol), Fort Myers, Florida; Thomas (Christina), Maumee, and John (Karin), Perrysburg; daughters, Stephanie (Kent) Reecer, Perrysburg, and Christine Johnstone, M.D., Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Sharon Erel, M.D., Istanbul, Turkey, and Tom McLean. Also, grandchildren, Eustacia Raye, Perrysburg; Thomas, Jr. (Megan) Fort Collins, Colorado; Nicholas, Maumee; Samantha, Phoenix, Arizona; Matthew, Toledo; Austin Miller, Columbus, Ohio; Julian Miller, Brooklyn, New York; Caleb Miller, Toledo; Danny and Joshua Endicott, Perrysburg; Samantha Garvin, Perrysburg; and Michael Dersch, Toledo; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Jr. and Julia Hohnstone, Las Vegas, Nevada; Nicholas, Maumee; Roane Gunge, Perrysburg; Christopher Brown and Nathaniel Dersch, Toledo, and the five McLean children and his grandchildren.

Josie was a member of the Ladies' Oriental Shrine of North America, Dendarah Court No. 10, and the Yondota Lodge Eastern Star.

Graveside services will be private. A celebration of Josie's life will be held at a future date.

Donations may be made to: Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and the Salvation Army.

Final arrangements were by Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, Toledo. Please leave a memory or condolences to
