PORTLAND - Carl E. Fitzgibbons, 73, of Portland died Thursday, May 16, 2013.

He was born in Meriden on July 23, 1939, and was the son of the late Thomas M. and Loretta (Bergin) Fitzgibbons. Carl served in the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer, USS Wren and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He leaves his wife, Marjorie (Johnson) Fitzgibbons; his daughter, Amy Fitzgibbons and son-in-law, Dennis Kane, of S. Boston, Mass.; and his son, Kyle and daughter-in-law, Reagan, of Portland; and three grandchildren, Tara, Paige and Colin Fitzgibbons. Carl is also survived by his brother, James and his wife, Rosalie, of Sarasota, Fla.; and his sister and her husband, Patricia and Fred Danby, of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Jr., and Robert.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday, May 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Portland Memorial Funeral Home 231 Main St Portland. Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, Carl's family asks that memorial donations be made to the or the International Mesothelioma Program or the Portland Volunteer Fireman's Association.
