MERIDEN - Helen Erdos Cyphers, 86, of Meriden, loving wife of the late Edwin Cyphers, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford.
Helen was born on Dec. 7, 1928, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Stepka) Erdos and lived, worked, and raised her children in Meriden. Helen at one time worked for Southern New England Telephone Company. While working there she was the very first recipient of a prestigious award for her outstanding friendly service to her customers, on the switchboard. She was selected and chosen among other operators in her district which included Meriden, New Britain, Bristol, and Middletown. Posters with her photo were displayed throughout the district offices. She was also a parishioner of St. Mary's Church.
Helen is survived by her son, Frank Cyphers and his wife, Nilda, of Meriden; her two grandchildren, Frank Cyphers II and Jennifer L. Daniels; and her great-granddaughter, Miranda Daniels; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Peter Cyphers; and her sister, Frances Madej.
A special thank you, we would like to extend to the Franciscan Center and Hospice for providing such care and compassion. Also, to St. Mary's for their endless visits.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Sunday, March 1, from 2 until 4:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held in The Wallingford Funeral Home at 5 p.m. Interment will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.

I'm saddened by this news & want to say that Helen was such a blessing to my aunt - Beverly Cossette - with her awesome friendship & sense of humor & her desire to always help do what she could. they would laugh & cry together & Helen was so sweet whenever I saw her there or spoke to her on the phone. also, my dad, Richard Balkow - Bev's brother - talks about Helen all the time. all the time. he's 87 & failing a bit himself & loves to always talk about the old days with lots of fond memories & smiles. he too loved Helen. May God hold you in His tender loving arms at this time. Cindy Paczek (Bev's niece).
