Louis Gaudio Mele, 73, of North Haven, died suddenly at his home on July 3, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Marcia Mele for 48 years. Born on Dec. 28, 1939, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Thomas and Florence Gaudio Mele.
In addition to his wife, Louis leaves his loving children, Michelle Mele and Chris Maiocco of North Haven and John and Lisa Mele of Oxford; four grandchildren, Elycia Maiocco of North Haven and Jack, Jenna and Jeremy Mele of Oxford; his brother Thomas Mele of North Haven and many other relatives and friends.
Louis graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1957. He then enlisted in the National Guard before beginning his pursuit of a Mathematics Degree at Southern Connecticut State University. He retired from SNET/ATT after a long career with the company. Louis had many interests and passions, one of which was cars. Over the years, he restored an MG and had a number of project cars. Louis was also a very skilled carpenter, something he learned from his late uncles, Ben and Louis Gaudio. He put these skills to great use, remodeling his family home in North Haven and helping his children and other family members with numerous projects at their homes. Louis was also an avid boater and spent many happy years on the water with his family and friends. Above all, he adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
Services were held July 8, 2013 from the North Haven Funeral Home, followed by a mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to
