Ernest J. Berrisford PUNTA GORDA, FL - Ernest J. Berrisford, 77, passed away at his home on Friday, Dec. 14. A longtime resident of Titusville, NJ, he was born March 27, 1935, in Hamilton, NJ, to Barbara and Ernest Berrisford. He attended Hamilton High School (1953), excelling at football and track. His athletic accomplishments include an all-state selection in football his senior year as well as setting several new school records for a running back. Ernest attended The Pennington School in Pennington, NJ, for a post graduate year before attending Ithaca college in Ithaca, NY, to study physical therapy. Ernest began his physical therapy career at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, NJ, before opening his own private practice in 1962. He married Elizabeth R. Shroeder of Trenton, NJ, in 1963. A compassionate and dedicated therapist, he successfully treated countless numbers of patients before retiring in 2000 after over 40 years of practice. In addition to his love of physical therapy and rehabilitation, Ernest was a skilled private pilot who flew his own airplane for many years, often using it as a means to treat patients residing outside his local practice area. An avid golfer, Ernest was a member of Twin Isles Country Club in Punta Gorda, after retiring to Florida in 2003. Brother of the late Evelyn Kraft of Buffalo, NY, he is survived by his two sons, Brian and Kevin Berrisford; daughter, Nicole Satterfield; his two beloved grandchildren, T.J. and Taylor Oeinck; brother-in-law, Gerald Kraft; two nieces, Cathy Kraft and Cindy Fine, as well as two nephews, Jerry Kraft and Gary Kraft. A memorial service will be held at Praise Tabernacle in Port Charlotte, FL, on Jan. 4, at 5 p.m. Please contact [email protected] for further details if planning on attending. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ernest's name can be made to The Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Hi, I was Mechele Schroeder, now Mechele Beczo. Even though Elizabeth, or Betty, is my cousin we always called her aunt Betty so we always called Ernie, uncle Ernie. I was very young when they got married. When we would go there to visit uncle Ernie was always very nice and very approachable. As a shy little girl, I never felt scared or threatened around him. He had a wonderful demeanor. As of real recent I have been thinking about him and wanted to contact him. None of the numbers I had, worked. So I looked him up and to find out that he passed away upset me very much and cried. I know it’s been quite a while and I don’t know if family members come back to this site or not. But please, can a close family member please call me ? My number is 609-586-8359

Dear Nicole, Brian and Kevin,
It was an honor and a privilege to have been able to spend time with your father. He was a kind, caring and accepting man. He always made Devin and Dylan feel important, especially when they got to call him poppop right along with TJ and Taylor. We will miss our catch up conversations we used to have with him at Publix, Walmart, Monty's or where ever it may be. He will be dearly missed but not forgotten. With our deepest sympathy,

Your love for your family, for golf and for staying on top of politics made you the wonderful man you are!!! You will always be loved and you will never be forgotten!

I will never forget Ernie and all the concern and kindness that he showed me and everyone he had in his care. His advice and patience in healing me was beyond the call of duty and I will always be grateful. His wisdom-filled emails came almost daily and I always looked forward to, and appreciated, hearing from him. I am happy that he was able to retire to Florida and spend so much time with his family whom he loved so dearly.
I know it is a difficult time for all of you and now my prayers will be for all his family to help you be strong and move forward. God Bless all of you, and thank you, Kevin, for being able to give him so much of your time and for keeping all of us who cared, informed. He made the world a better place.

Ernie was a good friend. We spent many happy hours together on the golf course, and I will miss his friendly attitude and pleasant demeanor. It is difficult for me to comprehend that he is gone, for we were planning this winter's golf events only a few months ago.

My heart has an empty spot in it that no one will be ever able to fill. Ung you were such an important part of my life. Every since I was a little girl, you were always there for me. I still loved you even that time you threatened to send me home. You taught how to be the Aunt that I am because of your love, attention and how it was all about spending time together. Because of that I have such a fantastic relationship with my Nieces and Nephew. There isn't a day that will go by that I won't think of you just like I think of Mom. I love you with all my heart and miss you lots!!! Love always - Cath

I only had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Berrisford one time, at Nicole and Robby's wedding. I do know that he raised a beautiful, well respected, loving daughter. That speaks a wealth of volume as to the kind of man you were in your life time.

Ernie, unfortunately I only had the great pleasure to be in your company one time at Brian and Kirsten's wedding here at my home. But it was memorable. You were a true gentleman, helpful, comedic, learned and oh so very friendly. During my knee replacement recovery from June through November 2012 you were my corresponding physical therapist with wise and prudent advise and counsel by phone and e mail on a thrice weekly basis as a result of which I am fully recovered. I thank you for that. You will be terribly missed by your wonderful family and innumerable friends. RIP my friend.

Dear Dad,
I am so happy and honored to have had the opportunity to call you Dad. You raised a wonderful son in Brian, whom I love very much. You taught him so much, and he takes after you in so many ways - kind, loyal, giving, loving, and with a work ethic no one can beat. We will miss you so very much but know you are with us, to guide us, everyday. All our love, Kirsten

My father was a lot of things- star athlete (he will soon be inducted to the hamilton hall of fame), Docter , pilot, avid golfer and father. He was both kind and extremely generous. His work ethic was legendary as he often worked seven days a week building a practice that lasted forty years, never turning away anyone in need. He taught me so much without knowing it and I tried everyday to make him as proud as I possibly could. I loved him dearly and miss him so much and I know so many others do as well. I love you dad! Love bri and kir.

I challenged my dad from the age of 13 until probably about 27 ....when the twins were born. All of a sudden in the blink of an eye....he became the smartest man in the world again. No matter what mistakes I made he never ever let me go. As my children get older I realize that I am my father to a T! He taught me so much.....unconditional love....discipline....strength.....loyalty....but most importantly..he taught me how to forgive and how to make myself happy through giving and helping others.
I am thankful everday that God gave me the chance to take care of my dad these last 2 months. I loved every bit of it. And I was able to give back just a smidgen of the love he gave me. I have never been more proud of my dad.
He will be so missed. There was just something about him that was extra special....he touched everyone and truly loved life....I will miss you so much Dad. I love you...Nicole
