Ernest R. Schumann, Sr., 81, of Susquehanna, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Barnes Kasson Hospital.
Born in Morrisville, PA., Ernie was a lifelong Trenton resident, and moved to Susquehanna, PA in 2006. Ernie was a highly decorated US Army Veteran, serving with the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War, and was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a union carpenter for over 50 years, retiring from Trenton Local #31. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 86 of Susquehanna, PA. Ernie loved nature, fishing, outdoors and his beloved dog Shadow.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Joan I. (Leinheiser) Schumann, his brother Robert Schumann, his son Richard Schumann of Yardville, NJ, and grandson Richard "Ricky" Schumann.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law; Ernest R. Schumann, Jr.; and Bruce D. Schumann; both of Mansfield Township, Timothy Schumann and Becky Smith; of Burlington, Douglas J. Schumann; of Susquehanna, PA, with whom he resided, and Betsy L. Chianese-Schumann; of Florence NJ, two sisters and one brother-in-law; Margarine and Walt Arkus; of Hamilton Township, and Lois Anderson; of Morrisville, PA; four grandchildren; Ernest R. Schumann; of Mansfield Township, Douglas J. Schumann, Jr.; of Trenton; Stacy A. Schumann; of Florence, and Olivia J. Schumann; of Burlington; three great-grandchildren; Alyssa L. Crusen and Peyton R. Wingerter; both of Florence, and Chase R. Schumann; of Aston, MD; his dog Shadow; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
A memorial service will be held in Susquehanna, PA at a future date.

I met & worked with Ernie 30+ yrs ago, he was one class act. Not many left like him. Working side by side he gave me tips on our work & life in general. Bless your soul Ernie.
