Paul was a best friend to me. His sudden departure left me more deeply saddened because I never got to say goodbye. Our friendship spanned at least a half century and in later years we were a twosome on the golf course almost weekly. Golf for us was more than a game; it became one of the most enjoyable days of the week and gave us a chance to feel youthful, if only once in a while. Paul was a natural athlete and in the last game we played a few months ago he smashed some drives straight down the middle. You learn a lot about a person's character on the golf course and I learned to respect Paul as a true gentleman with old school manners. He never lost his temper or never swore a word--a rare thing on the golf course. He played the game with a strict interpretation of the rules: couldn't give him a putt even when it was in the leather, and he never really believed in mulligans. I looked up to Paul and that's where I'm looking now. Every week I still expect the phone to ring and hear Paul's voice saying “how about Thursday”.

Deepest sympathy to the Nyquist family at this sad time. May the fond memories you share and the support of you family and friends bring you a measure of comfort. The words recorded in the passage at Psalm 62 verse 6 is comforting to know that God is a refuge.
