NORTH HANOVER - Galen W. "Mac" McCreary, 74, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., he had been a resident of Jacobstown for the past 31 years. Galen was a Vietnam veteran and a retired major of the U.S. Air Force
. He was a retired meteorologist/public admin., retired State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. He was a graduate and instructor at Burlington County Fire Academy, a graduate of various military and fire science courses. He was a graduate of Penn State and Juniata State College. He held many advanced degrees in mathematics, and he taught at Lyons Tech, Pennco Tech and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute. He was a member of the Jacobstown Volunteer Fire Co., a Mason for 41 years, Scottish Rite, Shriners and Knights Templar.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Forest and Margaret (Shilling) McCreary, and his wife, Mary Marilyn McCreary. He is survived by his son, David McCreary (Dawn-fiancée); a nephew and spouse, David Gindlesperger (Frances); one grandson, Nicholas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Dec. 28) at the Jacobstown Volunteer Fire Co., 86 Jacobstown-Chesterfield Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. Burial will follow in the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Province Line Road, Arneytown. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, NJ 08533.
