HAMILTON - James L Walters Sr., of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
James was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Nov. 3, 1929. He was a member of the Saint Peter Claver Church and he attended the Saint Peter Claver Church School also in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from the Textile High School in New York.
After graduating from high school James entered the United States Air Force
. He rose through the ranks and was granted top secret military clearance. He was assigned to the Pentagon and travelled extensively throughout the world. He proudly served his country for 20 years and retired at the rank of technical sergeant. He joined the United States Postal Service after his military career and was assigned as a mail handler and was also assigned to the finance as well as the procurement sections. He proudly served the postal service for 25 years until retirement.
James was a proud member of the Holy Angels Church for over 40 years. During that time he served as an usher, a member of the parish council, Chaplain of the Father Carney Retreat Club of the Holy Angels Church and lead a Ministry of Hospitality.
James joined the Knights of Columbus, Trenton Council No. 355 in 1970 and was an active lifelong member. He held the office of Past Grand Knight-Trenton Council No. 355, Past Faithful Navigator-Bishop Griffin Assembly and Former District Deputy. James was also a former member of the Honor Guard, Bishop Griffin Assembly 4th degree.
James was predeceased by his parents, James and Anna Lee Walters, brother, John (Elma), sister, Marie both of Brooklyn, N.Y. and his special friend, Lillian Robinson of Baltimore, Md. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra of Owings Mills, Md., son, Timothy of Fort Washington, Md., son, James (Tara); grandchildren, Kieanna, (Kenyon), Erika, Sidney, Kylah, James; great-grandchild, Kenyon Jr. and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Buklad Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad St., Hamilton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 1733 S. Broad St., Hamilton. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Buklad Memorial Home.
