HAMILTON - John Joseph De Cara, 85, of Hamilton Township, entered into God's care on Nov. 8, 2012.
Born in Trenton, John was a lifelong resident of this area. His early life was spent in North Trenton and later in Hamilton after he married Angie Mancuso in 1952.
John was a 1947 graduate of Trenton Central High School and recently attended his 65th reunion. While at high school he was a star punter on the football team and later continued to play on the Bond AA Team.
John served in the United States Army
during the Korean War
and was part of the Army's traveling baseball team in Europe. He was a quality control manager at Gould National Battery for 30 years. In addition, he was a 15 year employee with New Jersey Transit and a 13 year employee at Coleman's Hamilton Supply as a security guard.
John loved to swim, play golf, travel and dance with his wife. He most enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in sports and other life achievements.
John was the devoted husband of Mary Angela "Angie" Mancuso De Cara for 60 years. He is survived by her and two daughters and sons-in-laws, Donna and Robert Avolio of Richboro, Pa. and Loretta and George Mattonelli of Hamilton Square, five grandchildren, Rachel, Alexander and Jonathan Avolio and Daniel and Michael Mattonelli. He also had many nieces and nephews, and two special people, Armida and Norina Mattonelli.
John was loved by many and will be truly missed by all.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3816 East State St. Ext, Hamilton Township. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home at D'Errico Whitehorse Mercerville Chapel, 2365 Whitehorse Mercerville Road, Hamilton Township.
