Elder Leon DeHaney Sr.

TRENTON - Elder Leon DeHaney Sr., 87, of Trenton, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Capital Health, Hopewell.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Elder Leon came to the United States in the early 50s by sponsorship. Elder Leon started working at St. Francis Medical Center in the laundry room. He was also employed at the commissary at Fort Dix, and later worked at New Jersey State Psychiatric Hospital. He worked both jobs until he retired from both.
Elder Leon got his license in the ministry through Bishop Bowen in Philadelphia. He was the president of his class at Chesterfield Bible School. Elder Leon worshipped at Trenton Deliverance Center, later joining Bethel United Holy Church. For the past 30 years he worshipped at New Testament Baptist Church.
Predeceased by his parents, George Joshua DeHaney and Mary Alice Smart-DeHaney,surviving are his wife of over 55 years, Jane DeHaney; three daughters, Veronica E. Amour, Min. Mary A. DeHaney-Neblett (Ricardo) who followed her father's footsteps in ministry, and Carol A. Picott (Earnest I.); two sons, Leon DeHaney Jr. (Carrie) and Majesty J. Dubar (Michelle Barr); a son-in-law who was his buddy in ministry, Elder Earnest I. Picott; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two grand dogs, Oreo and CoCo; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1225 Calhoun St., Trenton. Interment will be Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from at 9 to 11 a.m. at the chapel.
