LAWRENCE - Mother Mary Nelson, 99, of Lawrenceville, departed this life to her heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
Born in Belmar, Mary was educated in the Lakewood and Princeton public school system where she received her diploma. In 1945, she moved to Trenton and settled there. She was employed by the Bristol's of Princeton for many years, also, part-time at Trenton Window Cleaning until she retired from Rider College in 1970. She loved to work pre-election polls. Mother Nelson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Princeton, Union Baptist Church and El-Bethel Baptist Church before joining the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Mary was predeceased by two husbands, Jesse Hoagland and Warren Nelson, her mother, Ada Ray, two sons-in-law, William Watson and John Pete Washington, two step-granddaughters, Rose Glover and Darlene Washington, surviving are five sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse Hoagland (Wilma) of Trenton, Raymond Hoagland (Mary), Alan Nelson (Marcile), Douglas Nelson (Loerene) all of North Carolina, David Nelson (Ruby) of California; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sherrie Cooke (Michael) of North Carolina, Diane Watkins of Virginia and Rosemary Washington, her caregiver; 23 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 24 step great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, 18 step great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 16) at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 735 E. State St. Trenton. Interment will be in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
