Yvette Jeannie Hortman was born in Paris France Yvette lived in Le Val-André, France with her parents Monsieur and Madame Marcel Lafontaine. Marcel graduated from Joinville French military academy and was part of the French resistance during WWII.
Yvette attended college in London and graduated with a business degree in 1953. She worked in Paris until meeting her husband Norman Hortman, a TWA Captain. They married in 1955. Yvette worked as a stewardess for both TWA and Colonial (Eastern) Airlines. She earned all of her pilot licenses, up to and including Airline Transport Pilot. She was a flight instructor and charter pilot for Hortman & Hortmont Aviation for many years. Yvette raced in several transcontinental all women's air races. Her best finish was 14th out of almost 200 entrants. In addition, she worked as a real estate agent from 1985 – 2000 for Weidel Realtors. Yvette remained active as President of Hortmont Aviation, handling day to day operations up until her stroke in April 2010.
Yvette was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 1974 and is survived by her children; Herbert (54); Walter (52); Jeannine (42); stepsons Norman and Charles; grandchildren;Paige and Cameron (by Walter); grandchildren; Meghan and little Herbie (by Herbert); several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her companion Pierre (Robert) Talec.
Yvette enjoyed vacationing every year in Hilton Head, SC and in France. She enjoyed perfect health until her stroke in April 2010. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, employees, and clients.
