William ""Billy"" Martin Jr.

William Martin Obituary

INDIAN HEAD, Md. - William "Billy" Martin, Jr., died suddenly Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at home in Indian Head.
He was born in Trenton, N.J., on April 20, 1957. He was a graduate of Princeton Day School and completed a business management degree at Rutgers University. He received many awards in football and basketball from PDS and was also a standout football player at Rutgers University. He was a former head football coach at PDS and at Caravel Academy, Bear, Del.
He was employed by the Department of Corrections for 25 years and was "Rookie of the Year" at the New Jersey State Prison in 1983.
He was a former member of Union Baptist Church, Trenton, N.J., where he served with the junior usher ministry and attended Sunday School.
Predeceased by his father, William Martin, Sr., and his brother, Anthony Martin, William is survived by one son, William J. Johnson of Louisville, Ky.; mother, Ella G. Martin of Trenton, N.J.; one uncle, Leon (Annie Bell) Martin of Trenton, N.J.; one aunt, Marjorie Jackson of Trenton, N.J.; one niece, Jaeuqetta Moore of Texas; special friend, Jacqueline Davis of Indian Head; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton, N.J. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, N.J. The viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, Trenton.

My Prayers go out to you and the family I recently heard about this and was very hurt and surprised to find out. Billy was my inspiration when I attended PDS because he mentored me on the process of a Trenton Kid attending the prep school. He will be missed tremendously.

Coach Martin was a great man, coach,friend, and mentor. I had the pleasure coaching under him. He loved those boys at Caravel.I know that he will be in heaven smiling down on those boys.
