I extend my heart and sincere prayers to his family. I knew him as Scotty. I was a young teen when I got to travel with him on the road twice in the 1970's and I've cared about and appreciated him since then. He was an essential member of a group my father managed for a short time (Instant Funk & the TNJ's). He was good people with an absolutely perfect sense of pocket timing, an amazing kick drum foot and awesome sense of humor. He is unforgettable in my book and I treasure the time I had with him, his brother Kim, and my favorite electric bass player of all, Raymond Earl (no disrespect to Jaco Pastorius and James Jamerson, but Scotty's group Instant Funk could out funk anybody).

Dear Family. Please know that I share the burden of your loss. Scotty was a member of my family also. Scotty's journey in life often took him in many different directions, allowing him to touch more lives than than the average person. May all the people whose lives he touched be Blessed with good memories he left us with. Although, this will never be enough to fill the void of his absence, the memories and the presence of his everlasting spirit will live on in all of us.

Rest in Peace Brother. Your struggles are over. A new journey awaits you, reuniting you with departed family, friends, fellow band-members, Cavaliers and many others.
