Jean Bernice Buie Rainer Obituary
WOODSTOCK, Va. - Jean Bernice Buie Rainer was the only child of the late Clara Cole Buie and Frank S. Buie. She died peacefully in Woodstock on July 28, 2014, as her son, Stuart gently held her hand.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Clarence J. Rainer and she leaves to mourn, her son, Stuart A. Rainer, daughter-in-law, Dr. Paula L. Rainer, and three grandchildren, Chadwick, Camille and Christina all of Oak Hill; and a goddaughter, Stephanie V. King of Philadelphia, Pa. and a host of relatives and friends.
Jean was born on April 13, 1928 in the city of Philadelphia. She attended primary and secondary schools in Philadelphia and graduated from West Philadelphia High School.
Jean lived in Lawrenceville for more than 40 years before moving to Virginia to be close to her son. Jean always had a strong interest in the life sciences and after high school graduation she pursued her passion at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1952. In later years, she obtained a Master of Arts degree in 1984 in curriculum, instruction and supervision at Rider University.
Jean was a longtime teacher in Trenton; retiring in 1991 with the Trenton public schools system as a math teacher. She taught school in Trenton for 24 years at both Parker and PJ Stokes Elementary Schools; she was beloved and respected by many and she deeply cared about the welfare of her students.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday August 2, 2014 at Greater Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, 42 Pennington Ave., Trenton. Calling hours will be 8 a.m. until time of services at the church. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
