Kinya M. Trotman NEW YORK- Kinya M. Trotman October 13, 1978 - March 4, 2014 was called from labor to rest on Tuesday March 4, 2014, at the tender age of 35. Kinya was born in Miami, FL. to the late Janeen Kim Trotman Shaw & Aaron Walter Scott. At the age of 4 years, Kinya relocated to Trenton, NJ where she spent her formative years. Kinya graduated from McCorristin Catholic High School in 1996 and earned a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Psychological Education Studies from Howard University in 2001. After graduation, Kinya taught preschool & later served as a museum educator for The Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center at The National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. In 2004, with her young son in tow, she moved to Trenton NJ to get closer to her lifelong dream of living in New York City. She commuted to Brooklyn to teach preschool & after 2 years, Kinya and Kyree moved to NYC. She became an editor with Random House Publishing and earned a Masters in Education in 2007 from Columbia University. In 2010, Kinya became the founder and president of Empire Children's Camp. Kinya combined her passion for education, the arts, & children to begin a program that would make a difference in the lives of all she served. Granddaughter of the late, Stephen Trotman Jr., Kinya leaves to cherish her memory her son Kyree J. Trotman of New York, father Aaron Walter Scott of Monroe, N.C., brothers Aaron Chaz & Michael Zachary Scott of Trenton, NJ, devoted Grandmother Ella Beatrice Trotman of Trenton, NJ, Uncle Marlon K. Bennett of Trenton, NJ, Aunt Sonya Trotman of Laurel, MD, Aunt Crystal Batton of Trenton, NJ, niece Azaria D. Scott of Trenton NJ, Great-uncle Roscoe (JoeAnn)Trotman of Mint Hill, NC, Great-aunt Joyce Trotman (Kevin) Jordan of Trenton, NJ, & Great-uncle Roosevelt Bennett of Richmond, VA., a host of loving cousins, lifelong childhood & best friend Chrysti Huff, beloved colleagues & friends. The memorial service will be on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY 10023.
