EWING - Clara Henrietta Sumners Wright was born on February 13, 1919, in Plainview, King and Queen County, Va.
She came to Trenton with her parents, Charles and Ella Sumners, in 1923. Clara was the oldest of eight children. She received her formal education in the Trenton school system attending kindergarten through ninth grade at New Lincoln School (Junior No. 5) and subsequently graduating from Trenton Central High School in 1938. In 1938, Clara married the love of her life, Paul Leroy Wright. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. This union was blessed with one daughter, Annetta Blackwell Mable.
She was predeceased by husband, Paul Leroy Wright, daughter, Annetta Blackwell Mable, grandchildren, Sharon Williams Foye and Craig Paul Mable. Clara leaves a granddaughter, Loren Mable Shepard; great-grandson, Benjamin Hunter; sisters, Minnie Gertrude Sumners and Dorothy Sumners Rush; brother, Thomas Wendell Sumners; sisters-in-law, Marybelle Sumners, Roberta Sumners and Joan Sumners; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton.
