Eugene "Gene Ross" Bognanno, 83, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA due to complications from heart surgery. Born in Manhattan, he lived in Hamilton.|
First and foremost, Mr. Bognanno was a jazz musician. He played the Hammond B3 organ with various groups in venues throughout New Jersey. For over 35 years, he played at Giovi's in Yardville. He also worked for Case Box Lunch for over 30 years. For the past 15 years, he had been employed by the Princeton YMCA. Mr. Bognanno was a graduate of Trenton High School – Class of 1947, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local #62.
Son of the late Samuel and Mildred Rotunda Bognanno, and husband of the late Joanne (Parker) Bognanno, he is survived by his wife of 13 years; Marlene Griffee; a son; Joseph G. Bognanno and his wife Mary; of NYC; two step-sons; Daniel Bognanno and his wife Sue; of Hamilton and Keith Griffee and his wife Amy; of Ottawa, Canada; a stepdaughter; Tracy Griffee and her husband Tracy Williams; of Casper, WY; four step grandchildren; including Melia and Brandon; three step great-grandchildren; a brother; Ross Bognanno; of Browns Mills; mother-in-law; Violet Parker; of Bordentown; cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton on Sunday (Sept. 30) from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday (Oct. 1) from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown. Visit www.murphyfh.com for more information.
