Gary Dean Gray Sr., 72, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., surrounded by his family. Born in Trenton, NJ, Gary was a lifelong resident of Hamilton Township, NJ. He was a graduate of Hamilton High West, Delaware State University and Rider University. Gary was an educator for 34 years in the Hamilton Township School System. Gary was a Trustee at the First Baptist Church of Pennington, a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, founding member of the Excellence Through Education (ETE) organization, and a board member of the J.O. Wilson Neighborhood Center. Additionally, Gary was a member of various educational and professional organizations. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Cleora Burrell, his father, Ernest “Ducky” Byard, his adopted parents, Norfleet and Adeline Gray and sister, Shelia Vaughn. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June, his son, Gary ‘Dean’` Gray Jr. and wife Erica, and his daughter, Heather Gray-Stout and husband, Attuti; grandchildren- Nadia and Naomi Gray and Layla, Grayson and Sydney Stout; brothers- Kenneth (Barbara) Faulker, Donald Johnson, Langston ‘Nicky’ Burrell, Gordon (Barbara), James (Shirley) and Michael (Ruby) Byard; sisters Diane Vaughn, and Judy Byard; brothers-in law-Anthony Matthews and Morris Matthews Jr. and sisters-in-laws- Marlene and Christine Matthews and Kathy Wright. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr. Way, Trenton, NJ on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Visitation hours will be from 9-11am, with Omega Psi Phi fraternity services beginning at 10am. Memorial Services will begin at 11am, officiated by Reverend Malik McKinley. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gary Gray Sr. may be made in support of cancer research at Jefferson Hospital at the Office of Institutional Advancement, 125 St. 9th Street, Suite, 600, Philadelphia, Pa 19107 or Excellence Through Education, P.O.
