Gloria J. Smith was born in Leesburg, Ga., on Aug. 12, 1947, to the now late Carrie B. Daniels and Samuel Jackson.
She departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Hopewell. Gloria received her early education in the Lee County School System in Leesburg, Ga. Gloria was employed by the Mercer County Correctional Center in Lambertville, N.J. for more than 24 years. She was a member of PBA Local 167 SOA.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her brother, Thomas A. Smith and long-time companion, Willie Fluellen of Camilla, Ga.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory and sustain her legacy, five children, Gregory Smith (Zina) of Highland Park, N.J., Chandra Smith, Robin Smith, Darrick Smith (Sirvel) and Brandon Fluellen, all of Trenton, N.J.; nine grandchildren, Ga-loni Smith, Nyaira Carriker, Nylam Carriker, Dahmir Smith, Jalen Smith, Dominic Smith, Rodney Haile, Naquan Tift, De'Andre Allen and her godson, Leonard Roberts; two sisters, Addie P. Daniels-Lane (Ernest) and Edna Daniels, both of Trenton, N.J.; and four brothers, Eugene M. Smith of Georgia, Lawrence Daniels Jr. (Sharon) of Maryland, Charles Daniels, and James Daniels (Tracy) of Willingboro, N.J.; a special sister-cousin, Carol D. Hallback; lifelong friends, Martha Steel and Judy Davis; and three very special co-workers, Patricia Hawthorne, Kesia Williams and Lori Boyer. She is also survived by an aunt and uncle, Mrs. Lois Rushin and Mr. George Smith, both of Georgia; as well as many devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and co-workers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday (Aug. 10) at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Way, Trenton, N.J. Calling hours will be from 8 a.m. until time of services at the church. Interment Ewing Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton.
