Obituary Condolences

Helen Rodzen Whitehead, 83, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer and other complications. She put up one hell of a fight. Born in Trenton and Educated in Trenton schools, she was a Trenton High School graduate in 1947. Helen as a young woman was employed at the old Yards Department Store as a ladies apparel buyer for many years. She married her husband in 1961. In 1961 she joined her husband at NJDOT and worked in the Materials Lab, Specifications Group in the Design specifications and with the computer section all as a technical assistant. She retired in 1995. She demolished the New York Times crossword puzzle every week, she loved cats, had two consecutive cats, both lived 15 years, was enthusiastic contributor to ASPCA, North Shore Animal and other animal rescues. She was a prolific reader of mystery novels, especially John Grisham, Pat Cronwell and others. She enjoyed spending summers at Harvey Cedars, NJ. A special salute to Greenwood House who looked after Helen on two separate periods for their compassionate attention to her needs.
She is survived by her husband; Samuel C. Whitehead; a niece; Mary Beth Willis; of Richmond, VA and her children; Riley and Mary Kate; a nephew; Charles F. O'Boyle III; of Richmond, VA and his children; Devon and Holden; and a niece; Helen O'Boyle; of Seattle, WA.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (July 23) at 10 a.m. at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington. Interment will follow in the Ewing Church Cemetery.
