PORT ORANGE, Fla. - John "Jack" Schmidt, 77, of Port Orange, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Florida Hospital in Ormond Beach.
Jack was born in Trenton, N.J., where he lived most of his life until moving to Port Orange in 1990.
Before moving to Florida he worked at R & R Marketing and was a retired iron worker. He also served in the United States Army. While living in New Jersey he was a member of the Bordentown Elks.
Son of the late John and Mary Toth Schmidt, husband of the late Doris Schmidt, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Slayback of Robbinsville, N.J.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John R. Schmidt of Port Orange; Ricky and Dawn Schmidt of Port St. Lucie; and John and Denise Huber of Hamilton, N.J.; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dave Walukiewicz of Gardnerville, Nev.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Betsy Duvin of Hudson; five grandchildren, Michael Carnevale, Samantha and Jessica Schmidt, Jessica and John Huber; two great-grandchildren, Johnathan and Dylan; special cousins, Garrett and Kathleen Garry of Port Orange; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.
A gathering of remembrance to celebrate Jack's life will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, N.J. Visit www.murphyfh.com.
