Mary Evelyn Lewis Skipwith ,93, passed away July 12, 2013 at Princeton Care Center. |
Born in Kingston, and lived in Princeton. Evelyn attended the Kingston area public schools for elementary school and graduated from Princeton High School. During World War II she worked in a factory that made airplane parts for the war. She was a former member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church of Princeton, NJ where she was a pianist and pipe organist. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton.
Mary Evelyn was married to the late William Jamison Skipwith Sr. (Skip) for 73 years, daughter of the late David and Mary Evelyn Lewis, mother of the late William Jamison Skipwith Jr., sister of the late George, David, and Theodore Lewis, and Hazel Rivers.
Mary Evelyn is survived by her two daugthers; Brenda Carey; son–in-law; Donald Carey; and Mary Alice Rountree; a sister; Gladys "Peachie" Jackson; grandchildren; Jill Carey-Melton; Jeffrey Carey (wife Brett Carey); and Autumn Rountree; great-grandchildren; Mikayla Carey-Melton; Malcolm Carey; and Jordan Carey, several nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom are dearly loved.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday (July 19) at First Baptist Church John St. and Paul Robeson Place Princeton, NJ. Calling hour will be 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment Princeton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church John St. and Paul Robeson Place Princeton, NJ 08542 in care of the Youth Council, Senior Citizens Group, and Missionary Society. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
