Mattie Elizabeth "Tea" Beckett, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Kennedy Hospital, in Stratford, NJ.|
Born and educated in Norfolk VA, Mattie was a resident of Trenton for over 60 years before moving to Browns Mills two years ago. She was employed by Blakely Laundry, Trenton and Lawrenceville Nursing Home in Lawrenceville. Ms. Beckett was a faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church, Trenton.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Alonzo Beckett, one son, Alonzo Beckett, Jr., (Boo-Boo), 14 sisters & brothers, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, two daughters-In-law, Bernice Hall and Renee Beckett. She is survived by two sons; Alonzel Beckett; of Browns Mills and Alfonzo Beckett; of Camden; four daughters; Helen Buckley; of Denton, TX.; Dorothy Beckett; of Trenton; Bonny Brown (Ronald); of Morrisville, PA. and Patricia Gayles (Otway); of Elkton, MD.; 21 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special relatives: Coritha (Rita) Brown; Jerry Phipps; Geneva (Diane) Beckett; Dorothy Richardson and her caretaker, Shontell Beckett and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday (Mar. 16) at 10 a.m. at New Salem Baptist Church. 316 Union St., Trenton, NJ. Pastor Ernest D. Wormley, Jr. officiating. Calling hours from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township, NJ.
