HAMILTON - Robert O. Wiles, age 84, of Hamilton, died April 17, 2013, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa., surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton and a lifelong area resident Robert O. was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired firefighter from Lakehurst Naval Air Station and previously worked for 19 years at the Trenton Pottery Crane Company. Bob was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the VFW Post 5700, the American Legion Post 458. He was a life member of the Hamilton Fire Company District 4 for over 70 years where he also served as sergeant at arms, a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association, the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association and currently held the position of Mercer County Executive Committteeman, the Firemen's Relief Association, a life member of Mercer County Fireman's Association, and a lifetime member of the St. Gregory's Senior Citizens and the Nottingham Squares Senior Group. Robert O. loved to travel in Europe and had taken more than 50 cruises in his lifetime.
Predeceased by his parents James E. Wiles Sr. and Nora Dermody Wiles, and his siblings, James E. Wiles Jr., and Eleanor Wiles, he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia R. Cook Wiles; three daughters, Patricia and husband Mark Hoyer Sr. of Hamilton, Karen Wiles of Hamilton, and Dr. Janet Somlyay and husband Laszlo Somlyay Jr. of Laramie Wyo.; five grandchildren, Stacie and spouse John, Mark Jr., Michael, Laszlo III, Evana; and two great- granddaughters, twin girls Juliana and Sophia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church. Calling hours will be Sunday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with fire company service at 7 p.m., and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Hartmann Memorial Home, 2830 Nottingham Way. Burial will be Tuesday with a 1 p.m. chapel service at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Hamilton Fire Company, 1805 East State St., Hamilton, NJ 08609.
