Stephen Leo Carney

Obituary Condolences

COLUMBIA, Md. - Stephen Leo Carney, age 87, formerly of Ewing, N.J., died March 15, 2013, at the Friendship Place Assisted Living in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trenton, N.J., and a long time Ewing resident, Stephen moved to Maryland several years ago with his wife Louise to be with his daughter and son-in-law. Stephen was a graduate of Trenton Catholic and was very active as a baseball coach with the American Legion. Stephen was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and retired as a carpenter foreman from the Trenton Board of Education.
Predeceased by his parents, Stephen Francis Carney and Rosemary Firth, his loving wife, Louise Amstock Carney, and daughter, Kathryn C. Varga, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Michael Will of Marriottsville, and Beth and Daniel Chapdelaine of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; a brother, John Carney of Trenton, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael and Matthew Varga, Elizabeth Varga Schein and husband John, Benjamin and Jeffrey Will, and Gordon and Wyatt Chapdelaine; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Schmidt-Varga; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., April 4, in Incarnation Church. The family will be receiving friends at church from 9 a.m. until the Mass. Private entombment of the cremains of Mr. and Mrs. Carney will be in the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneystown, N.J. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hartmann Memorial Home, 2830 Nottingham Way. Donations can be made to Dr. Bob's Place, 838 N. Eutaw St., Baltimore, MD 21201.
