PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Wanda Mary (Kochanowicz) Treptow, 92, of Punta Gorda, and formerly of Trenton, N.J., passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013.
Born in Trenton, N.J., as the daughter of the late Blaze Kochanowicz and Anna (Stoj) Kochanowicz, Wanda grew to be a gifted seamstress in the Trenton area. Honing her sewing and millinery skills at Trenton's School for Industrial Arts, she sewed parachutes at Switlik Parachute Company during World War II and during the Korean War. After the war her career continued with the Nan Glaser shop located in the Stacy Trent Hotel in Trenton. She focused her craft in fitting and alterations where she eventually worked up to manager of alterations at S.P. Dunham's Department Store. After a 30 year commitment to her customers, she retired from Dunham's Independence Mall branch. In her retirement Wanda never ceased her sewing, helping family members and friends, including the clergy of her local parish. Wanda, who was able to balance work, home and family, enjoyed dancing with her favorite dancing partner, Chester, her husband of 49 years. Additionally she spent her vacations cruising with family and friends. At home in Trenton Wanda could be seen playing bingo or catching a bus to Altantic City with her cousin, Gen, to play the slots! Wanda Treptow was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Divine Mercy Parish in Trenton. Although retired she volunteered teaching religious education to children with special needs in the "Holy Innocents" program at Holy Cross Church. She was a member and hosted an adult religious education program called "Renew" sponsored by her church and the Diocese of Trenton. Wanda was a member of the Divine Mercy Seniors and the Hamilton Township Seniors. Although living in Punta Gorda she not only continued her membership in the parish of the Church of the Holy Cross in Trenton but also remained a part of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 417, Ladies Auxiliary.
Wanda was predeceased by her spouse, Chester James Treptow, her daughter, Arlene Ann Little, son-in-law, John Markowicz, Sr., sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Richard Nolan, Helen and Donald Covert, and brother-in-law, Donald Sweeney, her Saturday morning breakfast buddy.
Wanda is survived by daughters, Dolores Markowicz of Waterford, Conn. and Christine (David) Servis of Punta Gorda, with whom she resided for the last three years. She is also survived by two sisters, Florence Sweeney of Toms River, N.J. and Theresa (Chester) Comstock of Camp Hill, Pa.; a grandson, John C. (Kristin) Markowicz, Jr., granddaughters, Karen (Brian) Noyes, Jennifer Gutowski, Amy (Jarred) DeWees and Michelle (Rory) Nesmith; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Winowicz Funeral Home, 308 Adeline at Beatty streets. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Parish, Church of the Holy Cross with the Rev. Fr. Edward Kowka presiding. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hamilton, N.J. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Divine Mercy Parish Church of the Holy Cross, 233 Adeline St., Trenton, NJ 08611, in Wanda's memory.
