EWING - Vernice Louise Oliver-Smith, 84, of Ewing departed this life on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Hopewell.|
Born in Trenton, Vernice was a lifelong area resident and was educated in the Trenton public school system. She graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1948. She attended Mercer County Community College. She was employed at Mercer County Special Services School District as a teacher's assistant. Vernice was a faithful and dedicated member of Grace Cathedral Fellowship Ministries, Inc. where she served as president of the Gospel Chorus and Kitchen Supervisor. She was a part of the Parenting Committee at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
Vernice was predeceased by her husband, Algero Smith Jr., her parents, Bertha and Bonnie Oliver, a son, Roy Smith, four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Sharon Smith of Westampton; a daughter, Vonita Smith of Florence; two granddaughters, Janelle of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Shannon of Brigantine; one brother, Ahmad Ali (Phyllis); two sisters, Betty Brown and Thelma Sharper (Abraham) all of Trenton; four sisters-in-law, Gloria Clark, Agnes Jackson, Francis Moody and Yvonne Oliver; her childhood friend, Marguerite Bingham; three special nieces, Shawn Oliver, Cynthia Brown and Talaya Needom; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 3, at 11 a.m. at Grace Cathedral Fellowship Ministries, 1217 Calhoun St., Trenton, NJ 08638. Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
