Daniel Knox Obituary
HAMILTON - Daniel Knox, 96, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility, Hamilton.
Born in Greenock, Scotland, Mr. Knox immigrated to the United States in 1953. A year later, he brought his family to America and began a new life in Trenton and later moved to Hamilton in 1960. Mr. Knox was employed with the Diocese of Trenton at St. Mary's Cathedral for many years. He later was employed with the Lawrence Township Board of Education working in the maintenance department of the Benjamin Franklin Middle School prior to his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Knox was a founding member and past president of the Capital City Scot's American Club and was always proud of his Scottish heritage. He was a lifetime member of the German American Society, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Trenton Division No. 1, and the Sons and Daughters of Erin. He was a former member of the Trenton Lawn Bowling Association and played weekly matches at Cadwalader Park. Daniel was an avid Glasgow Celtic supporter his entire life and was a member of the Andy Doyle Trenton Celtic Supporters Club. He was also a member of St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church.
Daniel's love for soccer extended into the coaching arena. He coached in the West End Soccer League and was an assistant coach for the Cathedral High School Varsity Team. Mr. Knox also coached the Scot's American Junior League team for a few seasons.
Predeceased by his parents, James and Anne (McGlaughlin) Knox and his brother, James, he is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Mary (McConway) Knox; his children, James and his wife Julie, his loving daughter, Catherine McKelvey, and her husband Vincent, and Daniel and his wife Joanne; his five grandchildren, Lisa Seiler and her husband Mike, James Knox and his wife Marti, Daniel Knox and his wife Joanne, Kelly Knox Ratchford and her husband Shaun, and Joseph Know and his wife Christie; his nine great-grandchildren, Patrick and Timmy Seiler, Drew and Greg Knox, Tommy and Michael Ratchford, and Makenna, Riley and Brady Knox; his sister, Nan McCluskey and his nephew, Edward McCluskey of Greenock, Scotland.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton. Family and friends may call on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
The family would like to express their gratitude to both the staff of Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility and the nurses of Serenity Hospice for the tender care they all provided to Mr. Knox.
