Claire Mary (nee Sofchak) Weerheim TRENTON - Claire Mary (nee Sofchak) Weerheim died on May 24, 2014 at home, at the age of 85. Daughter of the Andrew Sofchak and Elizabeth (nee Yorcho) Sofchak, she led an incredibly interesting life, full of wonderful opportunities and adventures. Growing up on Home Avenue in Trenton, NJ, she fostered her love for music by performing on WTTM while a young girl, and was lucky to meet such people as Jack Barry and Ernie Kovacs. She attended Cathedral High School and then continued on with her music career as Claire Konnover. Immensely talented in voice and piano and a lifelong member of the Musicians Union, she was classically trained and performed all over with her band, and at one time attracting the attention of Morton Downey, Sr. She chose marrying her husband Lawrence J. Weerheim in January 1954, residing in Bordentown and spending summers on Long Beach Island and after retirement, wintering in Port Charlotte, FL. She traveled extensively; visiting nearly all 50 states, Europe, Russia, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. She was a born activist and was a former Burlington County Committee woman and poll worker, volunteered her services to several charities and was a lifelong Democrat. After a brush with breast cancer, she devoted her attentions to raising money for that disease. She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry, son Gregory Weerheim, daughter Gwen Jones and son-in-law, Frank Jones, daughter Gretchen Weerheim and son-in-law Andrew Chattaway, granddaughters Elizabeth Weerheim and Jasmon Chattaway, and grandson Matthew Chattaway. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kutch Funeral Home, 215 Grand Street, Trenton, NJ, 609-393-6320. Relatives and friends may share their condolences with the family on Monday, June 2nd with Visitation starting at 10:00 am and the Funeral Service starting at noon. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in North Hanover Township. Since no flowers are permitted at the gravesite, memorial contributions can be made to the , PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
