Eleanore Smiegocki Pitonyak Obituary
HAMILTON - Eleanore Smiegocki Pitonyak of Groveville (Hamilton Township), passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Born and raised in Dickson City, PA. on October 29, 1926. She spent most of her life as a Trenton resident before she moved to Groveville where she had resided for the past 12 years. She graduated from Trenton Central High School. She retired from the City of Trenton in 1994 after 25 years with the Shade Tree Division and the Trenton Water Works. Currently, and for the past 20 years, she volunteered at Saint Lawrence Rehabilitation Center Gift Shop. Eleanore was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic War Veterans Post 417 Ladies Auxiliary, the Colonial Sportsmen's Club, the Hamilton Township Senior Center, the Switlik Park Senior Center, Divine Mercy Parish and St. Vincent DePaul Church.
Predeceased by her parents, Adam and Tessie Przychodny Smiegocki, her husband, George W. Pitonyak Sr., and brother, Joseph J. Smiegocki, Eleanore is survived by her loving children, George and Carol Pitonyak of Lawrenceville, Elaine and Mark Harris of Bordentown Township, and Lisa and Pete Pietras, with whom she resided; seven grandchildren, Nicole Pitonyak and husband Juan Garcia, Kevin Pitonyak and his partner Laura Abraham, Matthew and Jessica Harris, Adam, Tyler and Rachael Pietras; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Garcia and Audrina Pitonyak. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Romaine and Bill Gabauer, and sister-in-law Anna May Smiegocki; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Eleanore enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, trips to Atlantic City, playing bingo, loved to read, cook, and was an avid New York Yankee fan.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, from the Winowicz Funeral Home, corner of Adeline and Beatty streets. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Divine Mercy Parish Church of the Holy Cross with family friend the Rev. Fr. Stanley Krzyston presiding. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. both at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eleanore's name to SLRC Scholarship Fund, 2381 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
