Eva Christine Conaway Obituary
BORDENTOWN - Eva Christine Conaway, 75, of Bordentown, was the daughter of the late Perlie D. Godard and Eva Viola Godard. She was born on August 12, 1938 in Martin County, N.C. After a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, she was called to glory on July 24, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Conaway attended Martin County public schools and graduated from P.S. Jones High School in Washington, N.C. in 1956. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Winston-Salem Teachers College on May 24, 1960 and obtained her nursing license of the State of North Carolina on December 16, 1960. She worked for over 30 years at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. She was a devoted nurse who was highly respected in her role as nursing supervisor. She retired in 2000.
On April 22, 1962, she married Herbert C. Conaway Sr. to whom she was a devoted wife. Through this union she had four children. She had three siblings who preceded her in death: Verona Pearl Godard, Zene Grey Godard and Mae James Godard. She also had one brother-in-law, Samuel Conaway, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Conaway was a member of the Church of Christ in Trenton for 16 years, participating in the Senior Committee and the church health fairs. She will be remembered as a gracious, intelligent, faithful, tender and selfless person by all. Among her favorite pastimes were caring for her family and reading romance novels. Her happiest moments were returning home to North Carolina and family gatherings - reunions, vacations, dinners, cookouts and celebrations.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Dr. Herbert C. Conaway Jr. of Moorestown, Ann Renee Wair of Bordentown, Andrea Christine Conaway of Bordentown and Michelle Lee Conaway of Jersey City; two siblings, Oliver James (Allie) of Williamston, N.C. and Rudolph James (Laura) of Portsmouth, Va.; four in-laws, Earl and Claudine Conaway of Burlington, Janet Conaway of Fieldsboro and Georgianna Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Naomi Wair (Wesley Tagoe), Ishod Wair, Nitocris Wair, Alexandra Conaway, Clark Conaway, Aiden Kennedy and Addison Kennedy; two great- grandchildren, Cecilia and Eva Tagoe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Church of Christ, 411 North Clinton Avenue, Trenton. Burial will be in Bordentown Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
