Obituary Condolences

A. James Fessler Jr., MD., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton in 1927, he was a lifelong area resident.
A 1944 graduate of Trenton High School, Penn State University, Hahnemann Medical School, Dr. Fessler completed his internship at Wm. McKinley Hospital (now Capital Health Regional Medical Center) and he studied a year at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Fessler entered practice with his father over 50 years ago. He practiced medicine until his death at the age of 83 in the same office on South Broad Street in Trenton.
Dr. Fessler was associated with McKinley Hospital and Helene Fuld Hospital, most recently called Capital Health Regional Medical Center. He had been the Staff Medical Director, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and held many other chairmanships. He was a fellow of the International College of Surgeons and has been a member of the American Medical Society for 57 years.
Jim was a veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.
He belonged to the Trenton Club and Trenton Country Club where he was an avid golfer, tennis player, and also enjoyed paddle tennis. Jim also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family around the country.
Son of the late A. James Fessler Sr., MD and Hilda Wilson Fessler, father of the late JoAnne "Jodi" Fessler, and brother of the late Dean W. Fessler, he is survived by his childhood sweetheart, best friend, and loving wife of 59 years, Ella Riegel Fessler; his loving daughter, Adrienne Fessler Belli and husband Jay of Pennington; his dear son, A. James Fessler III MD and wife Paula of Rochester, N.Y.; his sister, Jane Brick of Medford; a sister-in-law, Lillian G. Fessler; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, along with many loyal patients and friends. Jim was known as "Pop Pop" to his five grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Ella Marie Fessler, A.J. Fessler IV, Michael Paul Fessler, John Peter Belli III and Andrew James Belli.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses and hospital staff of Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. Visit www.murphyfh.com. Burial will be private in Ewing Cemetery.
