TRENTON - Fleetie Bell Norman, 86, of Trenton, died Friday at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis.|
Born and educated in Marion, S.C., Fleetie came to live in New Jersey in 1942.
She joined Mt. Zion AME Church where she served on the Rosette usher board for 14 years as the treasurer. She was employed by Young's Rubber for 23 years. She moved with her husband to Chicago, Ill., where she joined St. John AME Church and served on their usher board for 13 years. She then moved to New Orleans, La., where she joined Union Bethel AME Church where she served on the usher board and was president of the choir. In 2001 she returned to New Jersey and rejoined Mt. Zion AME Church, the Rosette usher board and the Rose of Sharon; the Rev. Justice also assigned her to the church's stewardess board No. 2.
She was predeceased by her husband, McKinley Norman, her parents, Ralph and Annie M. Foster, and a brother, James Rowell. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Catherine Rowell of Boston, Mass. and Daisy Mae Atkins of New Orleans, La.; nephews, James Edward Rowell (Ethel) of Boston, Mass., Joe Dexter Rowell (Erinn) of Atlanta, Ga., James Floyd of Marion, S.C.; nieces, Azerline Rowell, Carolyn Rowell-Williams (James), Irene Rowell, Frances Jean Rowell-Darden (Antonio) all of Boston, Mass., and Rita Atkins of New Orleans, La.; two special cousins, Patricia Gainwright of Marion, S.C. and Gwendolyn Rowell of New York; close friend and caregiver, Sheila Henderson of Trenton; many cousins, grandnieces and great- grandnieces and -nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion AME Church, 42 Pennington Ave., Trenton. Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
