EWING - John H. Weyand, 78, entered into God's care on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Trenton, John was a lifelong Ewing resident. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. John was a lifetime member of the Prospect Heights Volunteer Fire Company where he served for 62 years. He was also a faithful bingo caller for 27 years. He retired in 1998 as a fire inspector from Ewing Township. He enjoyed fishing at the Jersey shore, and playing golf on his many trips to Florida. John was an avid Eagles fan.
Son of the late John Weyand and Ruth (Hartley) Deswert, and brother of the late Charles Weyand, John is survived by and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Maryann (Woodward) Weyand; his son, John J. Weyand; daughter, Theresa Puca-Bond and her husband Jim; stepsons, Daniel Williams, Jeff Williams and wife Carol; stepdaughter, Patricia Slavin; six grandchildren, Daniel Slavin, Keith Slavin and wife Jenna, Anthony Puca, Michael Slavin, Tara and her husband Joel Lehman, and Victoria Williams; two great-granddaughters, Ava Slavin and Savannah Bailey; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Weyand, and Betty and her husband Bud Schweder, Janet Woodward, Louise Delgado; and many precious nieces and nephews; and John's longtime friend, Harry Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. The Reverend Canon John C. Belmont of St. Matthews Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Avenue, Hamilton. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Prospect Heights Volunteer Fire Company, 1660 Ninth St., Ewing, NJ 08638.
