Eleanor M. Jenkins, 98, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Arcadia Rehabilitation Center in Hamilton, N.J.
Born on March 17, 1915 in Imlaystown, N.J. to Samuel Morgan and Susan Elethia Simbo, she resided in New York City, prior to returning to Imlaystown 30 years ago. A graduate of Apex Beauty School and Washington Business School, Eleanor worked several jobs and was involved in many community and church organizations including the Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem, The Boy Scouts of America, The United Methodist Church, The Federal Probation Office, Roosevelt Elementary School, the West Windsor Senior Center and the Union AME Church in Allentown, N.J. She retired from Checkmate in Freehold in 2000. Eleanor was a caring and kind woman who was always willing to help others.
Mother of the late Russell E. Morgan and Marion Elethia Gittens Hancock, Eleanor is survived by her beloved son, William I. Jenkins of Imlaystown, N.J.; 19 grandchildren, Russell Jr., Rhonda, Rory, Renee, Rasan, LaVette, Keith, Robyn, Duane, Lisa, Vaughn, William Jr., Jethon, Elethia, Ashantae, Eshauna, Mensah, Curtis and Khadia; 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Union AME Church, 72 Church St., Allentown, N.J. Interment will follow in the Allentown Methodist Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, N.J.
