Willie Arthur "J.R.", "Cozy" Barksdale, Jr., 54, died on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.|
Born in Chatham, VA, he was a Trenton resident for most of his life and graduated from Trenton Central High School, Class of 1978. He inducted in the U.S. Army in July 1978 and was honorably discharged in September 1983. After discharge, he attended Philadelphia Roofers School and, upon certification, he was employed by Roofers Local #30 of Philadelphia for over 25 years.
He was predeceased by one son, Jarrett Brice James, his father, Willie Arthur Barksdale, Sr. and three uncles, Arthur "Homer", Henry Lee "Po Joe" and Charles Wimbush. He is survived by his mother; Charlotte Barksdale; two sons; Jeremy and Jaleel James; one daughter; Christine Conway; two sisters; Geraldine and Tammy Barksdale; three brothers; Ricky Barksdale (Sonya); Bryan and Darius Beckett; one aunt; Mary Robertson (Woodrow); of Danville, VA; three uncles; Clyde; Bruce and Herman Wimbush; all of Trenton; great-uncle; Robert Barksdale; of Danville, VA; his godfather; Robert Groce; godson; Jamaal James; best friends; Tim Settles; James Ford and Anthony Thomas; the mother of his sons; Theresa James and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous special friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (July 19) at 12:30 p.m. at Samaritan Baptist Church, 531 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Bishop Joseph P. Ravenell Officiating. Calling hours from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
