LAWRENCE - Dorothy "Dot" Skwara Kalinowski, 82, of Lawrence Township, died peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Hamilton Grove Care Center, Mercerville.
Born in Trenton, Mrs. Kalinowski was a lifelong Trenton resident before moving to Lawrence in 2000. Dot was previously employed as the chief daytime barkeeper at her brother Edmund's North Trenton tavern known as Mundy's Bar and Package Store on Brunswick Avenue. Previously she was the secretary to the late Trenton Mayor Carmen J. Armenti, and was the business secretary at the Times of Trenton newspaper. Dot was also known as the "First Lady" of T.P.A.D.s when her husband, Gene, reigned as president.
Additionally, she loved going on the many family vacations, especially to the Caribbean, as well as to the Jersey shore for the annual Kalinowski Picnic by the Sea. Dot spent much time on the family boat, moored at Lacey Elks Marina, crabbing and clamming.
She was the daughter of the late Julian and Mary Kryzwonos Skwara, beloved wife of the late Eugene E. "Gene" Kalinowski, who was the former Trenton City Clerk and Trenton City Council President, and mother of the late William J. Kalinowski, she is survived by her loving son, Robert "Linky" Kalinowski of Lawrence Township; her grandson, Ryan Kalinowski and her granddaughter, Kristen Kalinowski; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Skwara of Trenton and Edmund Skwara of Ewing; her aunt, Sis Groch of Lawrence Township; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, and her special friend and faithful companion, her Shitzu, Buffy.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 27, from the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Ave. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Hedwig Church with the Rev. Dr. Jacek W. Labinski presiding. Burial will be in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Ewing. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and again from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday all at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are to be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
