George Edward Lee WESTAMPTON - George Edward Lee, 71 of Westampton, NJ departed this life on December 13, 2013 at Virtua Memorial Hospital at Mt. Holly. Born in Augusta, GA, George was educated in the Trenton Public Schools and was a graduate of Trenton Central High School. While at Trenton High he excelled in basketball, becoming the first player to ever score 1000 career points and was voted NJ Player of the year. In 2012, he was honored by the Class of 1961 when they retired his #42 Jersey. George continued his education at St. John's University before joining the US Army. After being honorably discharged, George sat on the Board of Selective Service. He played semi-pro basketball until a knee injury ended his career. George was employed by General Motors where he became the youngest floor manager. He retired in 1997. In 1999, he joined Bethany Baptist Church in Lindenwold, NJ and was baptized. Predeceased by his parents, James and Mamie Lee, two siblings, Carol Lee and Rodney Branch surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Agnes Lee; his daughter Serita Lee; a grandson, Deron Lee (Lydia); three sisters, Mamie Blackwell, Lenora Conover and Barbara Branch; four brothers, James Lee, Kenneth, John and Derrick branch; stepchildren, Rosalind (Jeffrey), Rita, Bobby, Charlie, Leshia, John and Sono, and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including Betsy Weston, Billy Brickers, Tal Brody and Jim Carrigan. Memorial Services will be Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11am at Campbell Funeral Chapel 1225 Calhoun St. Trenton, NJ. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
