Helen Feledik Obituary
Helen (Bartko) Feledik, formerly of Renton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at The Villas at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Thornton, Colo., with her brother, Frank Bartko and wife, Sandy, by her side. Helen was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Curtisville to Frank and Julia (Peskorich) Bartko. Helen and her husband, John, were longtime members of St. Januarius Church. Together, they worked very hard to help with the church from its beginning until its completion. They were married Oct. 27, 1945, and lived on Plum Street in Renton for 60 years. Helen had many longtime friends with many stories to tell. She loved her neighbors and their children, many who helped her after her husband John passed away in 1990. She also loved participating with her friends in many of the church-sponsored dinners, picnics and other special family events. Helen was very active with the church, serving as sacristan and CCD director for over 40 years. She was well known as an extraordinary minister of Communion, lector and CCD teacher. She was recognized by Pittsburgh City Council for her volunteerism and commitment to the church. She had many special friends at St. Januarius whom she loved and treasured. She served with pastors including Father Garbin, Father Aaron and Father Pilarski. Helen was a great role model and mentor for younger members of the church by giving freely of her time and effort. She was also noted as the historian for the town of Renton, recalling many of the hardships experienced by the coal mining families during the Great Depression. She was a generous and loving person who was loved by all who knew her. Her life is best characterized by her words, "I do what I do because I love what I do." In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary; and brothers, John and George. Helen spent her last days at The Villas at Sunny Acres in Thornton, Colo., near her youngest brother, Frank and his wife, Sandy; she is also survived by many nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. She will be missed by all of us.
