Paul Batta Obituary

Paul T. Batta, 89, of Connellsville, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born June 28, 1921, in Shoaf, Fayette County, a son of the late Thomas and Louise Bernovsky Batta. Paul had been a resident of Connellsville since 1948. He was the former owner and operator of Paul's Dairy in Connellsville, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville. Paul was a veteran of both the Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II, having served with Combat Team 7, with Company A, in the 310th Medical Battalion, with the 337th Regiment, in the 85th Infantry Division. He served in Italy. Paul had been a Booster League Football coach, manager for the Prep Football League in Connellsville, helped manage Booster League Baseball in Trotter, and was a charter member of the Trotter Boy Scout Troop. Paul is survived by his loving children, Virginia Dodds, of Falls Church, Va., William Batta, of Connellsville, and Robert Batta, of Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Samantha Shoemaker, of Connellsville, and Matthew Batta, of Wisconsin; his great-grandchildren, Hailey and William Shoemaker; and his sister, Mary Music, of Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie S. Spiker Batta, on May 4, 2004; his brother, Thomas Batta; and his sisters, Ann Karell and Margaret Herbert. At Paul's request, there will be no public viewing or services. A private memorial Mass will be held for the family. Interment is in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. Arrangements are under the direction of the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville.
