Frances Bodnar Obituary
Frances E. (Mehalic) Bodnar, 75, of Murrysville, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. Born Aug. 23, 1941, in Curtisville, Fran was a daughter of the late Anthony F. Mehalic and Helen (Bohach) Mehalic, of West Deer. With her parents having their roots in Czechoslovakia, Fran learned the Slovak language as a child and then learned English when she commenced formal schooling. At West Deer High School, from where she graduated in 1959, she performed the leading roles in the school's productions of Alice in Wonderland and You Can't Kiss Kate. It was while preparing for such roles that she reacquainted with her future husband, Thomas R. Bodnar. She married Tom in July of 1960 at Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Russellton. She enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, playing cards, continuing her education and traveling. A former sales associate in fine jewelry, executive secretary and homemaker, she was awarded numerous awards for her exemplary achievements. Survivors include her husband, Tom (Silver DJ); daughter, Kim A. Bodnar, Esq., of Ben Avon; daughter, Maria (Paul Boivin) West, of Dunedin, Fla.; son, Jason (Nan) Bodnar, of Spring Hill, Fla.; granddaughter, Isabella Bodnar; sister, Sylvia Landers, of Butler; and brother, Anthony (Janice) Mehalic, of Warrenton, Va. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John "Jack" Mehalic; and her uncles, Joseph (Gloria) and John (Ann) "Snuffy" Bohach and her paternal grandmother, Anna Prokop.
Friends and family will be received graveside in the spring when the daffodils are in bloom, where parting prayers will be conducted. She will be laid to rest near to her maternal grandparents, John and Helen (Sivak) Bohach; her mother-in-law, Mary (Boris) Bodnar; father-in-law, Arthur A. Bodnar; and other loved members of the family, Michael (Micky Bower) Yapundza, Steve (Punzo) Yapundza, Sam (Simo) Yapundza and Teresa Yapundza, at Deer Creek Cemetery in Cheswick.
