John C. Mogus Obituary
John C. Mogus, 96, of Murrysville, died peacefully Thursday, April 20, 2017, at home, surrounded by his devoted family and friends. He was born Nov. 8, 1920, in East Pittsburgh, a son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Evanovich) Mogus. John was a very talented artist whose paintings are displayed around the world in museums, including the Eisenhower, Patton and Battle of the Bulge Museum in Bastogne, Belgium. He was the winner of the South Carolina Turkey contest and 1991 Florida Duck Stamp contest. He was a proud Army veteran of World War II and recipient of a Purple Heart, having been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a longtime member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, Delmont. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, George and Nicholas Mogus; and sisters, Frances Nelis and Margaret Kutzel. John will be greatly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Josephine C. (Wrobel) Mogus; daughter, Marilyn Mogus, of Delmont; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. A funeral Mass for John will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, 497 Athena Drive, Delmont, with Father Joseph Bonafed, as celebrant. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment with full military honors accorded by Blairsville VFW will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
